Iconic brand Lacoste has redesigned the classic shirt without their signature crocodile! In celebration of the brand’s 85th anniversary, it partnered with the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) to design 10 new polos honoring threatened and endangered animal species.
We all love some classic and vintage pieces from Lacoste but they traded their green crocodile for a chance to showcase the endangered Vaquita, Burmese Roofed Turtle, Northern Sportive Lemur, Sumatran Tiger, Saola and more bird, rhino and iguana species. Profits will help the IUCN‘s Save Our Species program to protect endangered animals.
Each IUCN-supporting polo (valued at $185) has been produced in extremely limited quantities – to be specific, the exact amount of shirts that reflects each species’ population size remaining in the wild based on expert evaluation. Shop the limited selection here.
The idea of limited edition takes on a more impactful meaning here and with full support from us at SDF. Lacoste also incorporated the endangered species into pieces on its fall 2018 runway. The animals were featured within a foliage print on tracksuits, turtleneck sweater dresses, blazers and ponchos to celebrate the founders’ environmentally friendly legacy.
